When show creator Beau Willimon exited "House of Cards" earlier this January, the challenging task of continuing the show's high-caliber drama was left hanging in the balance.
Now, it seems like the show's executives have found the right people to fill in Willimon's shoes. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that the task has been given to senior writers Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson.
Pugliese and Gibson first started working on "House of Cards" in its third season. Pugliese wrote episodes three and 10, while Gibson wrote episodes six and 11.
The two will take charge of the Netflix drama during its fifth season.
"I welcome Frank and Melissa in their new roles on 'House of Cards' and look forward to collaborating with them and our creative team on season five," executive producer and lead star Kevin Spacey said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Pugliese and Gibson released a joint statement of their own: "We and the rest of the 'House of Cards' writers look forward to the next chapter of the reign of (Frank) Underwood."
For now, the show is entering its fourth season with Underwood making his campaign for the presidency even as he struggles to maintain his marriage with Claire (Robin Wright).
In the trailer released by Netflix, Underwood made his case on why American voters should vote for him as president.
"They say we get the leaders we deserve. Well, here's what I think America deserves: a leader who's not afraid to look you in the eye and tell you what he believes. I believe in putting people first. I believe in putting America back on track, I believe in opening doors. And I'm willing to work with both sides so that we all get what we want," said Underwood.
"They say we get the leaders we deserve. I think America deserves Frank Underwood. And in your heart, you know I'm right," he added.
"House of Cards" season 4 will return to Netflix on March 4.
