Wondering how all of the editors, celebs, and street style stars are staying warm this New York Fashion Week? Layers, that's how. But not just any kind of layers: We're talking about coats, jackets, sweatshirts, and cozy knits tied around these stylish ladies in ways that—well—these pieces may not exactly have been intended for. In other words? Genius.
Taylor Tomasi Hill dressed for the weather by tying a slim puffer around her waist. We've seen a lot of double-jacket styling on the streets this fashion week, but Tomasi Hill's save-it-for-later outerwear look gives new meaning to layering for winter.
While fashion risk-taker Leandra Medine only opted for a single coat layer, she chose to accessorize with a bright red sweater in lieu of a scarf. Her cable-knit layer does double-duty when she wants to switch up her look and add a bit more body warmth.
Brands are getting into the action as well, as seen at fall 2016 presentations like J.Crew's. While we're well-versed in the waist-tie sweater trick (be it preppy argyle sweaters or grungy plaid shirting), this slight shift of situating the knot on the side of the hip, instead of in front, adds a cool-girl factor to a tailored suiting look.
