"The Vampire Diaries" co-executive producer Caroline Dries recently sat down to discuss the midseason premiere as well as the brewing love triangle between Caroline Forbes, Stefan Salvatore and Valerie Tulle.
Dries revealed to Entertainment Weekly that Valerie is going to be put in a difficult position because she still has feelings for Stefan but she also wants to help Caroline with her pregnancy.
"With Valerie, she has become this third wheel in the Caroline-Stefan relationship," she explained. "She genuinely cares about Stefan and genuinely cares about what Caroline's going through with these babies. So she's become this accidental third wheel that we'll actually start to evolve into a bigger friendship with Stefan and Valerie, leaving Caroline to wonder where her boyfriend went."
Judging by Dries' comments, there is a good chance that Caroline will become angry that Stefan is spending all of his time with Valerie and will break up with her boyfriend.
This could then lead to Caroline spending more time with Alaric, which would explain why they were engaged in the flash forwards.
Dries added that "The Vampire Diaries" fans will also have the opportunity to learn more about Nora and there is a good chance she could become good friends with Matt.
"Nora starts to show off the layers of her personality," she explained. "She's still the villain because she's a little bit selfish and reckless, but at the same time she's also very likable because she makes herself vulnerable like Rebekah kind of used to do. We'll see her enter the fold in our hero group, which will make Matt very uncomfortable, because he's trying to stay staunchly anti-vampire. So the Heretics start to pull at his belief system."
Aside from Dries' new interview, the CW recently released the official promotional trailer for "The Vampire Diaries" season seven, episode 11.
The preview for "Things We Lost In The Fire" revealed that there is a good chance Damon is still hallucinating people from his past haunting him even though he escaped the Phoenix Stone.
Even though Stefan is trying to help his brother, he is still haunted by his own experiences with the Phoenix Stone and Caroline is going to try to help her boyfriend come to terms with what he saw while he was trapped.
"The Vampire Diaries" season seven is currently airing on Friday nights at 8 p.m. on the CW.
