In the Marvel comic books, Norse god Odin has already died three times trying to save his kingdom but never by the hand of the god of mischief Loki.
In the "Thor" movies, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was last seen taking over Odin's (Anthony Hopkins) seat on the throne (disguised as Odin himself), but whether or not Odin was really killed by the villain remains to be seen.
Even Marvel Cinematic Universe president Kevin Feige cannot give a straight answer regarding Odin's possible reappearance in "Thor: Ragnarok."
"Like all of our plans at Marvel Studios, we know where we would like to go if given the opportunity. We have very good ideas as to whether the All-Father is still with us or not. Maybe Odin dies, I don't know," he told Movie Pilot.
Hopkins himself does not seem too keen to reprise his role as Odin.
"I've done two [films], that's enough," he said.
Two other "Thor" stars who might not be returning for the third film include Jamie Alexander and Stellan Skarsgård, who play Lady Sif and Dr. Erik Selvig, respectively.
"I am not 100 percent sure at this moment," Alexander told Comic Book Movie about being a part of "Ragnarok." "I know that they're changing things with the script and that sort of thing, so I am literally in limbo. I know probably less than you do about it. I would love to do it, but whether or not it's going to work on my short hiatus from 'Blindspot' I'm not sure. There could be a lot of factors when it comes to that decision."
Skarsgård, on the other hand, was more definitive in his answer.
"I have a five-film deal with them [Marvel], and they still have one option" he said during an interview with Den of Geek. "'Thor 3' is not on my slate, but maybe the next 'Avengers.'"
"Thor: Ragnarok," which is directed by Taika Waititi, has been scheduled for release on Nov. 3, 2017.
