The younger generation of mutants will deliver a breath of fresh air to the "X-Men: Apocalypse" movie, and Kodi Smit-McPhee, who plays the young Nightcrawler, is pretty excited for fans to see his take on the mutant who is currently "scared of his own shadow."
"I believe we kind of get to see the side of Nightcrawler that we love so much in the comics. The more vulnerable, swashbuckling, joyous, random personality that we love, but also so grounded in his faith at a young age as well, as we went with the choice to still have the designs on his skin," Smit-McPhee shared with Collider.
"So, it's a mix of ideas, but something that I believe is pretty faithful to what the fans enjoy and something that I can kind of relate to as well," he added.
Smit-McPhee teased that even though Nightcrawler might be cowering in fear right now, he won't stay that way for too long.
"Through everything he does in this movie it's kind of, as we say, the stepping stones of becoming the brave hero he is," he said.
Another newbie in the franchise is Alexandra Shipp's Storm. Just like Nightcrawler, she has not come to terms with her purpose and has therefore sided with the villain Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac).
"My Storm in particular is...she's the past derivative of Halle [Berry]'s Storm. This Storm is a little bit different because you're meeting her in Cairo. You're seeing kind of a little bit of where she comes from. You're seeing all the pain that she's gone through," Shipp earlier said.
"It's like, she's kind of just all really messed up and the only mutants that she knows are bad mutants. The only mutants that she knows are the mutants who use their powers for stealing, or protecting thugs or whatever," the actress added.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will make its way to cinemas on May 27.
