Tye Sheridan has taken on the role of the young Scott Summers, also known as Cyclops, in the new Bryan Singer movie "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Even though Cyclops has already been played by a different actor in past "X-Men" films, Sheridan believes that he and the other newbies of the franchise can still deliver something new and exciting to the film.

"I think the younger generation brings a lot of light to the film. But also, like, the film is a superhero drama at its core, I think, and there are a lot of funny elements and light moments, but for the most part it's intense and it looks badass..." he told Collider. "It's so cool. I'm super proud to be here and be a part of all of it."

Sheridan said that each of the younger mutants has "something missing in this movie that they do have later on," so his character will definitely face a lot of struggles with his powers.

"I think he's still sharp, but has a dull sense of humor, but has an inner anger and there's just so many things he's trying to overcome and conquer. And you kind of see that struggle," he said.

The role of Cyclops previously belonged to James Marsden. Sheridan admitted that he has never talked to Marsden in person, but he appreciated the support the older actor has given him.

"I wrote him a handwritten letter just telling him how big of a fan I was of his work and how much I loved him in 'X-Men' and how honored I feel that I get to play him. And, I just put my e-mail down below and, like, within a few hours he responded, like 'Aw, dude, so stoked,'" shared Sheridan.

Meanwhile, Sheridan's co-star Sophie Turner, who plays the young Jean Grey in the film, said that the two mutants will find comfort in each other's friendship as they learn about their abilities.

"She's young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated - even from the other mutants - because she's so powerful. So there's a real vulnerability to her and it's great to see how her and Scott find each other through that alienation," the actress shared with Entertainment Weekly.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will make its way to cinemas on May 27.
