"Allegiant" star Theo James had no plans to audition for the role of Four in the "Divergent" series because he had a trip planned prior to it. As fate would have it, his plane ride got cancelled so he finally had time to go to the audition.
Needless to say, James bagged the role and it changed his life. When The Theologians asked James what he would have been doing if his acting career didn't take off, James answered, "I would have probably been a poor musician."
"I'd definitely do porn as well - but just classy porn, with long storylines. I'd be a Latin dancer," he jokingly added.
Luckily for James, there's no need for him to do porn because he has quite a few movies lined up, such as "The Secret Scripture," "Underworld: Blood Wars," and "Backstabbing for Beginners," to name a few.
James said that the roles he enjoys doing the most are the ones that he doesn't like.
"I enjoy playing characters I don't like. I'm quite insular and private, so I shy away from the idea of bringing my true self to the screen," he said.
In order to embrace new roles, James said that he tries his best to empathize with the characters.
"If you're playing someone totally alien to you, it can be hard to tap into that character. So you look at the extreme situation they're in and compare it with certain scenarios from your own life and think about how you would react. And then you use that part of your personality. You're always bringing pieces of yourself to a role," he said.
As grateful as he is for the "Divergent" franchise, James admitted that he cannot wait to take on lesser-known films in the future.
Action and franchise films are "a box I feel I've checked off," James told the Toronto Sun. "I'm looking forward to doing smaller things for a little bit. In a way I have less experience with them, so I need to develop myself as an actor and as a person."
