New spoilers for "Castle" season eight, episode 16 revealed that Detective Javier Esposito is going to tell Kate Beckett and Rick Castle that he was once engaged to a criminal.
SpoilerTV reported that the synopsis for episode 16 hinted Rick and Kate are going to investigate a case that has ties to Detective Esposito's past.
Rick and Kate are going to be called in to discover who killed an armored-car driver. Unfortunately, there is a clue at the scene of the crime that ties in to an old case solved by Detective Esposito.
Upon closer examination, they find out that Detective Esposito has not been truthful about his past with the culprit.
ABC released a sneak peek of "Heartbreaker" on YouTube that hinted Esposito is going to cave under pressure and tell Kate the truth about his past.
In the preview, Kate subtly started to interrogate her co-worker about how he solved the past case and his involvement with culprit.
At first, Esposito is hesitant to answer his friend's questions but it is clear that the pressure is too much for him.
He then admitted that he was once engaged to a woman named Sonya and he did not know she was a criminal when they started their relationship.
Esposito added that it was only after he proposed to Sonya that her behavior changed. She started disappearing at odd hours and refused to look him in the eye.
He pointed out that he discovered the truth about Sonya's criminal activities when a gut feeling told him she was involved in a heist.
Esposito then tracked down his fiancée, saw she was involved and arrested her.
Aside from Esposito revealing his past to his co-workers, the clip hinted that he still has feelings for Sonya. It will be interesting to see if his emotions hinder his ability to help Rick and Kate solve the case.
"Castle" season eight is currently airing on Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
