New spoilers for "Castle" season eight suggested that Kate Beckett could die in a confrontation with LokSat during the finale.
Deadline reported ABC recently announced that season eight is going to be the final season for Stana Katic and Tamala Jones.
Allegedly, the network is considering airing a shortened season next year and let the actresses go due to budgetary reasons.
Despite the rumors, E!Online pointed out that ABC refused to comment on whether the show has been officially renewed as well as why Katic has not been asked to return for a potential ninth season.
Instead, the network simply thanked Jones and Katic for their hard work and dedication to "Castle."
"Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series 'Castle' for the past eight years," the network said. "We are grateful for Stana Katic's talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship. Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of 'Castle.'"
Katic also released a statement where she thanked ABC for having the opportunity to play Kate and admitted that she was grateful to her fans for all their support over the past eight years.
"Rather than distract from what was an amazing experience, I would just like to say that I am very grateful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be part of a much beloved show," she said. "Thank you to the fans."
TVLine added that ABC also released the official synopsis for the "Castle" season eight finale, which hinted that Rick and Kate are going to have a deadly confrontation with the crime lord LokSat.
If "Castle" is renewed for a ninth season and Katic is not going to return to the show, there is a good chance that Kate will die taking down LokSat.
"Castle" season eight is currently airing on Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
