"Dancing with the Stars" pro Mark Ballas injured his back during a final rehearsal with partner Paige VanZant during week two and was unable to compete during Monday's show. How is he now?
Ballas sat out the couple's second performance on March 28 after sustaining an injury the evening before the couple's second performance on the hit ABC reality dance series.
"I think I just slipped a disc," Mark said in the footage from the rehearsal shown during the show.
Ballas later stated during the live show that "I had an MRI earlier in the day and I'm waiting for the results."
The dance pro later revealed to E! News that he is hopeful to return to the series and attempt a mirrorball win with VanZant.
"The doctor seems to be optimistic, so I'm feeling good about it," he said to E!
"I just don't know how quickly. No time-frame yet...but I don't want to let her down. I want to be there with her, she's fantastic," Ballas shared.
"DWTS" troupe member Alan Bernsten stepped in for Mark at the last minute as VanZant's partner.
Bernsten only rehearsed for two hours with the MMA pro before hitting the ballroom floor.
The couple scored a 24 out of 30 points for their sexy salsa, choreographed by Ballas.
Said Ballas of the couple's dance, "I'm really proud of her. I thought she did excellent tonight. It's a hard situation to be put into."
VanZant also commented to E! of how she felt when she learned Ballas would have to sit out her performance.
"It was scary. It was very scary," VanZant revealed.
"Allan stepped up and learned the routine very quickly. We had to change a lot of things, which was scary for me. Everything was up in the air...I'm really happy I got to go out there and perform," said the MMA fighter.
"Dancing with the Stars" airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
