There have been several cameos made by "Veronica Mars" stars on Rob Thomas' zombie detective show "iZombie," but Enrico Colantoni's cameo as the vice detective Lou Benedetto is the one that is making fans miss the teen noir series the most.
Both Benedetto and Keith share the same profession, and they are both tough guys that people should not mess with. The similarities are not loss on Colantoni, who has found himself reminiscing about "Veronica Mars" while on the set of "iZombie."
"There were moments [when I'm acting as Benedetto] where I thought, 'I could be Keith Mars right now,'" Colantoni told TV Line.
It also helps that Rose McIver's Liv Moore bears a physical resemblance to Kristen Bell's Veronica Mars. Because of this, Colantoni's paternal affection towards his on-screen daughter gets passed on to "iZombie."
"I just want to put my arm around her (Liv) and set her straight. How could you not?" he said.
However, Colantoni was quick to point out that there are also some big differences between Keith and Benedetto because the latter is slightly "violent and creepy," while the former is anything but the two.
"What Keith Mars wasn't [was] amoral," the actor pointed out. "For a private investigator in a noir environment, you really expect [him] to be morally compromised in some way, but Keith wasn't. But this guy, Lou Benedetto, is compromised. He'll break the rules. His integrity's intact, [but] his morality might not be."
Another highly-anticipated cameo on "iZombie" would be from Jason Dohring, the actor who portrayed Veronica's love interest Logan Echolls.
Thomas said that he tried his best to get the actor on board. However, Dohring's schedule did not permit it.
"I had emailed Jason Dohring earlier this year saying, 'Hey man, I'm going to find something great for you, a cool storyline,'" Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter.
"That was certainly my intention until he booked his gig on 'The Originals,' so that went by the wayside. We had to cast someone else in that role unfortunately, but it would have been great to have him on the show. There are many people from 'Veronica Mars' and 'Party Down' that I hope to get on the show."
"iZombie" season 2 airs every Tuesday on The CW.
