"Jane the Virgin" season 2 episode 39 really dropped a bombshell when Petra Solano's twin sister Anezka suddenly made her appearance.
Even Yael Grobglas, the actress who portrays Petra, was pretty surprised with the development.
When she first read the script about Petra running away from her life, she actually thought that her character was going to get killed off.
"I was like, 'Wait a minute, why is Petra running away? What do you mean she's running away? Do you think that they kill me off the show or send me away and not tell me about it?' And then at the end of the episode, it's the long-lost sister," Grobglas told The Hollywood Reporter. "At first, it was a sigh of relief and then I was like, 'Wait a minute - what?!'"
Grobglas was then faced with the task of developing a new character for the show. She said that Anezka talks differently from Petra, and they are "polar opposite[s]" of one another.
"Her voice is different and her body language is different," Grobglas continued. "She's actually - a little secret - she's based on a few of my cats. That's what I drew inspiration from; different character traits form different cats I've had."
Grobglas refused to reveal whether or not Anezka is planning to stir up some trouble for Petra, but she does think it's hilarious how all the crazy things are happening in Petra's life.
"It will be interesting to see because it could go a few ways for her. Either she finally has a friend or she could get on her nerves," she said.
Meanwhile, "Jane the Virgin" has been renewed for a third season and the whole cast and crew couldn't be happier with the news, according to Deadline.
Showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman assured fans that they will continue to showcase "magical realism, comedy and range" in the third season.
"Jane the Virgin" season 2 airs every Monday on The CW.
