"Mr. Robot" star Christian Slater fights against corporate bigwigs on the hit USA Network show, but in real life, he also has something to battle. The actor is asking for the defamation lawsuit filed against him by his father, Thomas Slater — who is also known as Michael Hawkins — be dropped, on account of his father's mental health.

Slater said in a counter-suit that his father has threatened his and his mother's life on more than one occasion, according to Entertainment Tonight.

"When I referred to my father as 'manic-depressive schizophrenic' during the Interview Magazine interview [in June 2015], I genuinely believed that the Plaintiff was 'manic-depressive schizophrenic' based on all the information I had from my mother and uncles, and, more importantly, based on my father's behavior and communications with me, and about me, my mother and others over the past 30 years," the actor reportedly said in court documents.

Hawkins sued Slater for $20 million in February, according to People. In the lawsuit, Hawkins, who is also an actor, denied Slater's allegations of mental illness.

Hawkins also said that the statement has affected his movie career.

"This publicly embarrassing disclosure, according to proof, has ruined his career in the stage, motion picture and television industry which he has never recovered from," the lawsuit reads.

Slater, however, said in his counter-suit that his father had not been active in the entertainment industry since the '80s.

"I haven't seen him in a few years. We just spoke recently. He's a manic-depressive schizophrenic," said Slater in the Interview Magazine interview, which Hawkins said was defaming. "He's always had trouble - he was a fantastic actor and extraordinarily charismatic and very, very good looking, but he had a really difficult time working with directors, collaborating with people."
