"Penny Dreadful" star Josh Hartnett recently sat down to discuss his character Ethan Chandler in a new behind-the-scenes featurette. There was also a new scene from the featurette that hinted the werewolf is going to find love with the witch Hecate Poole.
Collider reported that Hartnett admitted that Ethan did not want to walk away from Vanessa at the end of "Penny Dreadful" season two, but he rejected her because he did not want her to see him publically executed.
The "Penny Dreadful" star hinted that the third season opens with Ethan being returned to America in order to stand trial for a crime he committed a few years ago and pointed out this misdeed was what his character has been running from the past two seasons.
"Season three opens with Ethan being brought back home," Harnett explained. "He is going to be forced to stand trial for a crime that he committed a few years ago and that he has been running from."
Harnett added that Ethan is going to meet several new antagonists who want to see the werewolf held accountable for his crimes.
The "Penny Dreadful" star warned fans that Ethan is not looking for a surrogate family, but a group of friends where he could find acceptance.
"This season, Ethan is not really looking for a family like so many other characters are," Hartnett explained. "But he finds that there is some place for acceptance with other people."
Dread Central added that the new "Penny Dreadful" behind-the-scenes featurette gave a quick glimpse of a scene where Ethan Chandler is reunited with the witch Hecate Poole.
Hecate is the daughter of the witch Evelyn Poole and was responsible for orchestrating her mother's demise.
Previously, "Penny Dreadful" season two hinted that Hecate was intrigued by the werewolf and was starting to develop feelings for him.
The preview hinted that Hecate appeared in a bar after Ethan transformed into a werewolf and killed the guests.
It will be interesting to see if Ethan will fall in love with Hecate or if he will stay loyal to Vanessa and find a way to return to London in order to be her.
The "Penny Dreadful" season three premiere will air on Sunday, May 1, at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
