The first season of "Shadowhunters" has already wrapped, and while fans will not see their favorite characters in action for some time, there will be a lot of things to look forward to on the show's next installment.
Showrunner Ed Decter has teased a few details that fans can expect to see when the show returns for season 2. The producer said that while the show is based on Cassandra Clare's "The Mortal Instruments" book series, the show will continue to put out surprises in order to keep fans on their toes.
"The goal in the writers' room is to make the fans feel like we're not going to end up in the place they're expecting, then surprise them with how we get there," Decter told TVLine. "We try to keep some surprises for the hardcore fans who will initially ask 'What are they doing? Why are they doing this?' The hope is that they eventually come to a point where they say, 'Oh, I got it. I see what they were doing before.'"

Decter also teased the addition of new characters in the upcoming season. It is worth noting that they had already introduced a character that was not present in Clare's books during the show's first run. Lydia Branwell, which was played by [actress], was created especially for the show.
"Some characters we've met go through giant transfomations," Decter teased. "Simon's girlfriend Maureen has a lot in store for her, and there's a lot in store for Jocelyn and Luke. There will be new characters we meet as well, including the Seelie Queen."
The show has already been confirmed for a second season, but details about when it will return on screen have not been announced. It appears that the show will not be back on the small screen until next year, according to Cartermatt, giving fans a lot of waiting time before delving into the world of "Shadowhunters" again.
