"Teen Wolf" season 6 will be different from the past seasons of the show, and can also be regarded as "Teen Wolf 2.0," according to showrunner Jeff Davis.

The producer said that Crystal Reed's surprise return on the show last season was a way to introduce the new direction the show will take.

"It was another way for us to have Allison save Scott's life, to show that these incredible relationships and bonds survive even after death," Davis told TVLine. "She can still save his life, even from beyond the grave. It was also a way of starting to hand the baton over to Teen Wolf 2.0."

The producer added: "It is a very different show now, so we acknowledged the past while also moving towards the future. We're seeing our high school kids on the way to graduation. It's a strange thing doing a teen show that lasts four seasons because they do eventually have to grow up. ... I don't think we want to have to change the title to Adult Wolf or Man Wolf."

Davis also addressed rumors saying the upcoming season might be the show's last.

"Who knows if [that] will be the last season or not," he told The Hollywood Reporter. "[But] beyond season six, I'd love for someone else to take over the show. If it still has a life, if there's still stories to tell, that would be great - [to] see maybe Dylan Sprayberry take over the role of the Teen Wolf and see Tyler Posey move into more of a Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) role. That would be the 'Degrassi High' version."

"Teen Wolf" season 6 has not been given an air date, although it is expected to premiere in June.
