There are several reasons why "Thor: Ragnarok" star Chris Hemsworth moved his family away from Hollywood and back to Australia, and one of these reasons is that he finds himself "suffocating" in L.A.
Hemsworth said in the April issue of Modern Luxury Magazine that he loves what he does as an actor. However, if he is "surrounded by it constantly," he feels overwhelmed.
"It's nice to have conversations with people and be a part of a community that doesn't live and breathe that world," he said.
At the same time, Hemsworth had to consider his children's upbringing. "L.A. is a tough place to get around with kids. There's not a whole lot of foot traffic. It was all about loading up the car and car seats. Here [in Australia], we just walk out the door and head to the beach down the street. It's a much more simple life," he said.
He and his wife, Elsa Pataky, believe that moving back to Australia, where they now enjoy a farm setup, is the "best thing" they ever decided on.
Hemsworth said that his family matters more to him than his career, and he considers it refreshing to focus on them because acting is "the most self-absorbed world."
"You are constantly having to self-analyse or analyse a character you are playing, so you are internalising and thinking, thinking, thinking about me," he explained. "Oh, I didn't get that film and I wanted that one, and am I any good? It's just a horrible, noisy conversation. Once the kids arrived, I was like, 'Wow, this is what life is about!'"
ABC.net.au has reported that "Thor: Ragnarok" will be filming in Queensland's Gold Coast, so Hemsworth is lucky enough to do what he loves with his family nearby.
"Thor: Ragnarok," which is directed by Taika Waititi, will be released on Nov. 3, 2017.
