Sookie St. James was the queen of Gilmore Girls, and yet she constantly played second fiddle to Lorelai Gilmore's mixed bag of neuroses. I always wondered why the hell Sookie put up with such a narcissistic, flighty friend. I figured the only explanation was that Lorelai was giving Sookie a hefty salary for her chef gig at The Dragonfly Inn. How else could she deal with Lorelai's incessant moaning about Rory's princess problems?
Nope. I was wrong. Sookie was only making $45,720, according to Glassdoor. That's a solid salary, but nowhere near enough to compensate Sookie for being Lorelai's friend soundboard.
And, as it turns out, many of your favorite TV characters have less-than-desirable salaries. Glassdoor did a roundup of what some of the most iconic characters ever—both old and new—make at their jobs, and the results might surprise you. They'll definitely enrage you.
Exhibit A: Ross Geller. The worst character on Friends apparently made $114,134 at his job as a paleontology professor. Half of that better have gone to Ben's Barbie collection, which, yes, he's allowed to have.
And the other half should go to Joyce Byers from Stranger Things, who only makes $18,560 at her cashier job. She definitely deserves more money than Ross, hands down.
So does Hannah Horvath from Girls. She made roughly $50,000 at her staff writer job before quitting. Words seem way more important than dinosaurs, to be honest. (This isn't my writer's bias talking, I swear!)
Thankfully, goddess Leslie Knope from Parks and Recreation brought home more coins than Ross. For her job as deputy director for the Pawnee City Department of Parks and Recreation, Knope pocketed $117,537.
Some other highlights from Glassdoor's research: Homer Simpson only makes $37,100 as a nuclear plant safety inspector, while both Jane Villanueva (Jane the Virgin) and Walter White (Breaking Bad) make more as teachers. Also, both Sheldon Lee Cooper (The Big Bang Theory) and Michael Scott (The Office) rake in six figures for their jobs.
But the biggest takeaway? The lowest female salary on this list is $18,560 (Joyce), but the smallest male one is a whopping $14,000 more than that: $33,000. (Nick Miller from New Girl makes this much as a bartender. ) Just something to chew on, folks.
Head over to Glassdoor to see what more of your fictional favorites make. Excuse me while I stare at my checking account and wait for $1 million to magically appear.
Let's block ads! (Why?)
