"The Walking Dead" comic creator and co-executive producer Robert Kirkman recently sat down to discuss the arrival of Negan and a new character who goes by the nickname of Jesus.
Previously, AMC announced that "Supernatural" alum Jeffrey Dean Morgan had landed the role of Negan. In the original comics, Negan is the leader of a gang known as the Saviors and he wields a baseball bat wrapped with barbed wire.
Kirkman warned Entertainment Weekly that the infamous character's arrival on "The Walking Dead" is going to permanently change the show.
"As far as shake-ups go, we have a lot of shake-ups from season to season," he explained. "It keeps things interesting, but Negan is kind of like an atomic bomb that's going to be dropped on the show and the show is never going to be the same after that."
"The Walking Dead" showrunner went on to describe why the Saviors are so dangerous and will present such a huge threat to Rick's group.
"I think the Saviors are dangerously organized," Kirkman said. "The Wolves were psycotic and the Hunters from Terminus had a lot of weaknesses. When it comes to the Saviors and Negan, this is a group led by a guy who is a few clicks away from Rick towards the darker aspects of his personality, but is still an intellectual and capable leader who has kept his group alive against all odds just as long as Rick has. It's really the best encountering the best. When these two forces come head to head, it's going to be interesting."
Entertainment Weekly also reported that another infamous character from "The Walking Dead" comics is going to be making an appearance in the show.
Kirkman revealed that in the second half of season six, Rick and his group are going to encounter Tom Payne's character Jesus.
In the original comics, Jesus is the nickname for a man named Paul Monroe who is a skilled fighter and comes from another colony known as the Hilltop.
"Jesus is just a fun character to write in the comics," Kirkman admitted. "He's smart, quick and athletic. He's been surviving on his feet. He's going to bring a lot to the show. There's some cool stuff coming with him."
Aside from the arrival of Negan and Jesus, Comic Book reported that "The Walking Dead" star Lauren Cohen recently admitted she's excited for the show to explore Maggie's pregnancy.
In the first half of "The Walking Dead" season six, Maggie told Glenn that she was pregnant.
"Since the apocalypse is the only life that they have, I do think it's a good idea. I think that they want to bring life into this world," Cohen explained. "You can't avoid having the full experience that your body allows you to have because of these zombies. So I am excited for Maggie and Glenn to have a baby Magglen."
"The Walking Dead" midseason premiere will air on Sunday, Feb. 14, at 9 p.m. on AMC.
