The success of HBO's fantasy television series "Game of Thrones" is quite enviable that any comparison a show and movie can draw from it is a welcome development.

Bryan Singer's upcoming "X-Men: Apocalypse" film is one of them. During a recent interview with Yahoo Movies, Singer revealed that he is a huge "Game of Thrones" fan, and he was actually very pleased to discover a lot of striking similarities between his film and the show.

"There's a crossover between 'X-Men' and 'Game of Thrones,' they're both about a younger generation finding their powers, finding out who they are, and what their place in the world is," he shared.

"I like how the show's about different groups of people moving towards a common goal. They don't even know if that's the right goal, who wants to sit on that uncomfortable throne? I don't! Everyone in King's Landing is miserable. But for some reason they want that power," Singer added.

Meanwhile, producer Simon Kinberg noted that their heroes will deal with death and destruction like never before.

"There's a lot more destruction and loss in this film (than) we've had in the previous movies," he shared. "We weren't afraid to go to darker, heavier places than we've done in these films before."

Kinberg said having a villain (Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse) named after "the complete final destruction of the world" really required them to raise the stakes of storytelling.

During an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kinberg even described "X-Men: Apocalypse" as "the biggest X-Men film we've ever done" because of the villain's "extinction-level threat" to the world.

However, Apocalypse is not interested in being the only mutant left on planet Earth.

"He's more interested in the sort of survival of the fittest. The strongest, no matter what they may be, surviving and making essentially a better world," explained Kinberg.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released in cinemas on May 27.
