It seems a little drastic for Oscar Isaac's Apocalypse to want to destroy the world in Bryan Singer's upcoming movie "X-Men: Apocalypse," but the director said that the super villain actually has a pretty good explanation why.
Singer explained during an interview with Screen Rant that the main goal of Apocalypse is really to save the world. Unfortunately, his desired end does not justify his means.
"He believes with his heart that order is the only thing that's going to save humanity, and he will provide that order at any cost," Singer explained. "And for a person who begins as a unifier and then grows in power - What's the old expression about power? Power does what? And what does absolute power do? Things just never go right, so that civilization goes down and he starts a fresh one."
Singer acknowledges that Apocalypse's powers are out of this world. He is able to do so many things that Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and his team will really have their hands full.
"He moves from body to body. Apocalypse himself is not a physical form, he's an energy. I don't know what he is. What he does is he accumulates powers over the millenia by moving from body to body, and what's wonderful is he thinks in the beginning of the film he's found this great body," Singer said about the mutant's powers.
Apocalypse was able to acquire many different powers over the years so his strength is "beyond anything ever imagined."
"He can amplify your power, transform you as a mutant but his ability to physically damage, destroy, or build is in the non-biological world," Singer added.
In another interview with Collider, the director revealed that all the mutants are at risk of losing their lives so no one is truly safe in the film.
"I'll kill any of those characters any day I want. They're all fair game. Anything can happen," he teased.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released in cinemas on May 27.
