"Joy" star Jennifer Lawrence would have been a great fit in Paul Feig's rebooted "Ghostbusters" film, but unfortunately, her commitment with Bryan Singer's "X-Men: Apocalypse" kept her from joining the female-centered cast.
Feig revealed to Yahoo! Movies that he and the actress had a "general kind of meet and greet" a few years back to talk about the film.
"I told her, 'Hey I'm doing this thing. And she's like, 'Oh my god, I love 'Ghostbusters!''" he shared.
Everything would have been perfect had it not been for their contrasting schedules. As much as Feig would have wanted to wait for Lawrence's free time just to get her on the film, they had to move on with the project without her.
"I'm desperate to work with her, but I didn't even entertain it very long because I just knew the schedules didn't sync up at all," Feig said. "We had such a very definitive window to shoot it in."
Lawrence was not the only one Feig courted to join "Ghostbusters." He also asked Anne Hathaway, Rebel Wilson, Anna Faris, and Emma Stone. Stone reportedly turned the project down because she did not want to get involved in another franchise so soon after "The Amazing Spider-Man."
In the end, the lead roles went to "Bridesmaids" stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, as well as "Saturday Night Live" mainstays Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones.
Earlier, when MTV UK asked several celebrities who they would love to see in the film, McCarthy and Wiig were hands down the favorite choices.
"Spy" actor Jude Law said he would love to see Amy Poehler and Tina Fey in it. "Allegiant" star Shailene Woodley picked Emma Stone, saying that the actress would definitely add a lot of "comedic value" to the film.
Meanwhile, "Interstellar" stars Hathaway and Jessica Chastain wished that Bill Murray would make a cameo in the rebooted "Ghostbusters."
"Ghostbusters" will make its way to cinemas on July 15.
