Robin Wright is so good playing Claire Underwood in the Netflix series "House of Cards" that she won a Golden Globe award in 2014 for it.
But ever since she started directing a couple of episodes of season 4 this year, Wright finally found her true passion.
"I would prefer to be behind the camera," she told Harper's Bazaar. "Full on, forever. That would be great."
Wright said that her acting days are over, but that does not mean that she would turn down a great cameo if ever it came along.
"You feel you've completed the chapter. It's so whimsical, this business; you never know when or what is going to come next. So never say never," she said. "But if someone said, 'You can either act or direct,' without hesitation I would say, 'Direct.'"
The allure of directing is magnified further because Wright gets to work with pros in the acting business, such her onscreen husband Kevin Spacey.
"He's such a master. He turns it on so quickly and is such a fast absorber, just a sponge. You don't have to say anything to him," she gushed.
Now that she has gotten the directing bug, Wright does not think that she would ever go back to being a full-time actress.
"With directing there's so much to learn and the challenge of something new. Not to say that you can't stop learning as an actor, but I'm not that kind of actor. I can play characters, but that's not my life force. I don't want to do that any more," she said.
Wright's dedication to her craft has really impressed "House of Cards" newbie Neve Campbell, who plays ambitious fund-raiser Leann Harvey.
"She's driven to go beyond acting. I'm not so driven. I don't have control issues either," she told The Guardian about Wright.
"House of Cards" season 4 will return to Netflix on March 4.
