"Grey's Anatomy" star Ellen Pompeo has maintained that the relationship between her character Meredith and Justin Chambers' Alex is platonic.
"I think they're too close ... to much like brother and sister," the actress told TVLine in an interview. "I have super-close friends who I'm not romantically attracted to at all."
Pompeo added: "So I think just because you're so in love with someone in one way doesn't mean it's a romantic love. But they certainly do understand each other a lot."
The actress, however, is not opposed to the idea that the characters might go beyond the line of friendship in the future. Pompeo said the decision over the characters' fate would remain in series creator Shonda Rhimes's hands.
"Ultimately, it doesn't really matter what I think," the actress said. "This is Shonda's show and whatever path she chooses to go down creatively, I'm with her. I'm going to give it my all. I trust her vision. We've been a great team so far."

Fans of the show have been eager to see Meredith getting back on the dating track after the death of her husband, Derek (Patrick Dempsey). While she did try to open up and see someone — she went on a date with Will Thorpe (Scott Elrod) — she's just not ready to commit yet.
"We're moving toward Meredith dating again, so everyone has to get ready for it," Pompeo teased during an interview with Cosmopolitan, adding, "I'm very happy and excited with the way this is unfolding. It's exciting for Meredith, and it's some happiness, some light. I hope we get to keep going down that path."
