Ian Somerhalder's gorgeous wife Nikki Reed, who starred as Rosalie Hale in the "Twilight" movie series, used to suffer from a lot of physical insecurities while she was growing up. Now, the actress believes that girls who are struggling with insecurities have it rougher because social media messes with their perception of beauty and perfection.

"I think it's really a shame. I think that in a lot of ways social media is going to be blamed for the destruction of society and the way women view themselves, because I think we are constantly comparing ourselves to other people's false impressions of themselves that they put out there and their own persona that doesn't even necessarily match with reality. And yet we're comparing ourselves to that and it wasn't real to begin with," she told Yahoo! Beauty.

The actress said that everything is seen through a filter nowadays, and people tend to disconnect reality from fantasy.

"Our ability to relate on any level to human beings is completely changed now because of social media. There's such a disconnect between what's real, whether it's talking or whether it's beauty," she said.

Personally, Reed said that she does not use any photo filters. She clarified that she does not have anything against people who use it, but she prefers to keep things natural. She believes that filters should be used "for fun but not to enhance the beauty of something."

Reed also said that people will only end up feeling "miserable" if they try to live up to society's standards for beauty, so she told Yahoo! Health that people should learn how to embrace their physical attributes instead of always wanting to look a different way.

"If I could talk to my younger self, I would've told myself to be gentler to myself. Because there comes a time when everything you thought mattered, in terms of physicality or standards - all of that stuff becomes so irrelevant and unimportant. And you start realizing what you're actually meant to do on this Earth," she said.
