"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 will end with a few shockers, but fans will be treated to a few tension-filled moments before the installment wraps up.
Speaking of the upcoming episode, titled "Mama Tried," Kevin McKidd, who stars on the show as Owen, told TVLine that the installment will feel like a stand-alone episode.
McKidd, who directed the episode, also teased what fans can expect from the dramatic custody battle between Callie (Sara Ramirez) and Arizona (Jessica Capshaw).
"Yeah, that's the hard thing for all [the rest] of our characters," the actor said. "We're all asked to give testimony for the person we believe should have custody. It's really tough when you have to pick a side like that, and that's part of the reason why it's such an intense episode."
McKidd, however, teased that things might not end up all bad for Callie and Arizona.

"They do try to connect at a certain point, but the lawyers get in there and do their lawyering and cause damage, so [the ex-wives'] interaction is very charged," the actor said, adding, "They both in a way come to a point where the ycan acknowledge the relationship that existed."
"In spite of the hurt feelings, they try to reach a higher ground and respect the [past]," he said. "But it's hard when there are hurt feelings in the heat of the moment to really follow through on that."
Apart from Callie and Arizona, Stephanie (Jerrika Hinton) and Kyle (Wilmer Valderrama) will also be wrought with tension in the next episode.
Speaking of how things will unfold for the two, Hinton told The Hollywood Reporter: "There is guilt there and she's aware that what she's done is callous and cowardly. When she does cross paths with Kyle again, there's definitely some guilt and shame that she's feeling. She doesn't regret her decision by any means but she is human enough to have feelings about it."
"Grey's Anatomy" season 12 airs Thursdays, 8 p.m. on ABC.
