Olivia Munn could have had a meatier part playing Wade Wilson's devoted girlfriend Vanessa in "Deadpool," but she turned the role down because she did not want to play somebody's girlfriend again.
When she was offered the role of the villain mutant Psylocke, on the other hand, Munn's interest was piqued.
Producers told her that Psylocke would have "an important presence" in "X-Men: Apocalypse," although there wouldn't be much dialogue for her. That suited Munn just fine.
"I said, 'Is there a fight scene?' " Munn told American Way Magazine of her early meetings with the "X-Men: Apocalypse" people.
The filmmakers said yes, and the role was hers. "The fight scene," she said with a smile, "could be her monologue."
Munn said that her role as Psylocke is something that is either going to be a hit or miss. Whatever happens, she is ready for the public's review of the character.
"Right now, where I sit, I don't have another movie I'm doing, I don't have the next thing after," she said. "Either it's a great reception to the character or it's not and I just keep going."
But personally, Munn thinks the world of her character.
"I thought Psylocke was always one of the most lethal characters," she said. "She has really powerful abilities."
Munn particularly loves Psylocke's fighting style. According to her, the villain is ruthless and does not show any hesitation in killing her victims.
"She's never had a problem killing, and I like that she was the bad guy that had no problem being the bad guy. She's telekinetic and telepathic so she can read your mind. She can create anything with her mind," the actress told CNET.
"To win any fights, she can just create a mountain and have it fall down on you, but she chooses to create a sword so she can kill up close and personal. I always thought that was really cool and badass," she continued.
"X-Men: Apocalypse," which is directed by Bryan Singer, will be released on May 27.
