New spoilers for the "Castle" season eight finale hinted that Kate Beckett is going to die taking down the crime lord LokSat.
SpoilerTV reported that ABC released the official synopsis for the season eight finale, which is titled "Crossfire."
The synopsis hinted Kate and her husband Rick Castle are going to find a new lead on LokSat, but an unforeseen twist puts their lives in jeopardy.
The promotional images for "Crossfire" revealed that Rick and Kate are going to stake out a suspect, but it is possible that their hiding places will be discovered.
Perhaps LokSat attacks Rick and Kate in the finale, which leads to the latter dying from her injuries.
Previously, ABC announced that Stana Katic and her co-star Tamala Jones would be leaving the show at the end of season eight.
Given the fact that Katic and Jones are exiting the series, it would make sense if "Castle" killed off both characters in order to set up a new storyline should the show be renewed for a ninth season.
"Castle" co-executive producer Alexi Hawley told Entertainment Weekly there is a good chance a few main characters are going to die in "Crossfire."
"There is death in every episode of the show," he explained. "We don't want to get into that too much, but there's definitely danger. Rick and Kate's lives are in jeopardy pretty much from the jump. What we wanted to do was keep pulling the rug out from under them. Things get dangerous very fast. Ultimately, it is a back-and-forth from being the hunters to being the hunted all the way through the finale."
However, Hawley pointed out that if "Castle" is not picked up for a ninth season, there could be a slightly different end to the season eight finale.
"If we hear that we are not coming back, we have shot something that we can put at the end of the episode as a way to put a button on everything," he said. "Obviously, that would be a bad thing because it would mean no more 'Castle.' We did it in order to protect the fans, because you can't end the series on a cliffhanger."
"Castle" season eight is currently airing on Monday nights at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
