Many may remember Jennifer Lawrence winning a Golden Globe this year for her portrayal in the biopic "Joy" however, some know little about the influential woman who inspired the the award winning film.
Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment recently hosted an exclusive press day where Fashion & Style had the opportunity to chat with Joy Mangano about her movie and what's next.

What was your first reaction when you found out that your life was going to be portrayed in film?
Well actually, I have to be honest. My first reaction was I didn't believe it and then I thought about it and I was like, "Wait a minute, what did I do in life? Let me think back a minute because this could not be a good thing." I'm actually just teasing you about that part, it's actually so unbelievable. I think everyone would have the same reaction, "That can't be true." Then you hear about Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, I couldn't digest it all. It was so incredibly miraculous and such an honor quite frankly.
Did you give Jennifer Lawrence any advice when it came to portraying you on screen?
Far be for me to give Jennifer Lawrence advice on her career in acting. But it was cute because when she met me she grabbed my hand and said, "Look a french manicure!" She had obviously been study me as well, she's brilliant and I love her to death, she's just incredible and way beyond her years. So no, I didn't give her advice. It was funny, she really knew so much about me and my mannerisms and there were many things about me that Jennifer brought to the role. I was her inspiration and obviously the foundation but she brought the breath of her talent and everything about Jennifer to that role equally. It was quite impressive.
You seem really content with Jennifer Lawrence portraying you on screen, did you have a specific actress in mind prior to her casting?
I don't know how anyone couldn't have her on the top of their list. That almost was something that was there but when it actually was spoken to me, it's like you're having a dream. The movie "Joy" is a classic and she will always be a class act.
What advice would you give young women inventors who are trying to be successful?
Well, the first bit of advice is absolutely go for it. I think within that statement you always have to be realistic to a degree if it's something that is so farfetched. If your instincts have worked for you in life, I say listen to them. And then I think even if you know what the ultimate goal is, put that out of your mind a little bit because you have to take one step at a time. They're not always easy, the obstacles that come with everything. I believe the inventiveness is just the seed of everything we do in life I certainly support that. I say, just take it one step at a time and if something happens that you didn't expect, you have to figure out how to get around that obstacle to keep moving forward. That end goal, for me personally that end product that I might have in mind is sometimes very different when you get there because of all the things that you have to go through but it's always better. I say go for it, that's what I always say.
Do you have any upcoming projects that you can tease? What can we expect to see from you in the future?
When I design products, I look at life through product even if it's like my little steamer, I put style, pop of color, ease of use and certainly the innovations that make it for me something that is a must have. To answer your question, in 2016 we're going to do some industry changing and I think you're going to do things like travel a whole lot better and some other areas. This year is going to be a big year in the way of product for me. We're talking about things that I've been working on for three or four years so it really is an amazing path to when we launch something and I think you will be very excited!
