The season three premiere of "Penny Dreadful" certainly wasn't one to miss. However, we had a ton of questions about the season by the episode's end.

Check out our list of the four burning questions we hope will be answered by the time the Showtime series' finale airs.

4. Is Dr. Seward the reincarnation of Joan "The Cut-Wife" Clayton?

In "Penny Dreadful" season two, an older witch who was known as the Cut-Wife of Ballantrae Moor mentored Vanessa Ives.

She eventually admitted that her real name was Joan Clayton and she was Evelyn Poole's sister. They had a falling out because Joan did not want to practice the Dark Arts and sell her soul to the devil himself.

Unfortunately, Evelyn had her sister Joan killed in an attempt to kidnap Vanessa and force her to give up her soul to Lucifer.

Evelyn's plan failed, and Vanessa avenged Joan's death in the final showdown with the witches during the season two finale.

In the "Penny Dreadful" season three premiere, Vanessa made an appointment with a psychiatrist named Dr. Seward and she was shocked to see that her new doctor looked exactly like Joan.

Dr. Seward also admitted her family name was Clayton and they lived near Ballantrae Moor.

It is possible Dr. Seward is either the reincarnation of the Cut-Wife or the older witch used magic to fake her death and she took a new identity in order to help Vanessa fight the evil that threatens to consume her soul.

3. What did Kaetenay mean when he said Ethan was almost his son?

After Sir Malcolm Murray buried his old friend Sembene in Africa, he was attacked by a group of thieves after he left the bar.

An older gentleman named Kaetenay saved his life. Afterwards, the mysterious man persuaded Sir Malcolm to go to America and rescue Ethan Chandler.

When Sir Malcolm asked Kaetenay how he knew Ethan, he pointed out that the young werewolf "was almost his son."

There is a chance Kaetenay had a daughter who was in love with Ethan, but either Ethan's father Mr. Talbot forced his son to break off the engagement or had her killed.

2. Did Renfield turn into a vampire?

The "Penny Dreadful" season three premiere introduced viewers to a kind zoologist named Dr. Alexander Sweet and Dr. Seward's secretary Renfield.

At the end of the season three premiere, Renfield was attacked by a group of characters and introduced to the infamous Count Dracula, who hinted that he had plans for the young secretary.

Apparently, Dracula wants Renfield to spy on Vanessa in an attempt to find a weakness so he can convince her to become his bride.

At the end of their meeting, Dracula orders Renfield to bare his throat and it is unknown if the count drank from his new assistant or if he turned him into a vampire.

1. Is Dr. Alexander Sweet Count Dracula in disguise?

There was a light-heartened moment in the "Penny Dreadful" season three premiere when Vanessa went to the natural history museum and flirted a bit with Dr. Sweet as they looked at the remains of the preserved scorpions on the shelves.

Even though Dr. Sweet appears to be a normal man, it is possible that his kind-hearted façade is simply a ruse and he is Count Dracula in disguise.

However, "Penny Dreadful" season two revealed that Count Dracula and his brother, the fallen angel Lucifer, are going to hunt Vanessa because they want her to be their immortal bride.

Sir Ferdinand Lyle also found an ancient text that hinted Vanessa is the reincarnation of the ancient Egyptian goddess Amunet.

If Vanessa gives up her soul to either Lucifer or Count Dracula, Amunet will take over Vanessa's body and bring about the destruction of mankind.

It is possible that Dr. Sweet is not Count Dracula in disguise, but rather his brother Lucifer pretending to be human and trying to woo Vanessa in order to unleash the ancient goddess sleeping inside of her soul.

"Penny Dreadful" season three is currently airing on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on Showtime.
