"Pretty Little Liars" star Shay Mitchell has opened up about her sexuality.
The actress, who plays Emily — a lesbian character — on the hit Freeform show, shared that she does not want her sexuality to be defined and that she would like to pursue relationships with whoever she has feelings for regardless of their gender.
"When I started, people were like, 'What are you?'" Mitchell told Cosmopolitan. "I'm like, right now I'm dating a guy. I don't now what it's going to be in three years. You love who you love: black, white, polka-dot. That's what my dad always said."
The actress added: "I'm never going to label myself. I could be 50 and dating a woman and then what? I said I was straight and now I'm not?"

The actress has also shared her delight over the fact that she no longer has to answer questions related to her character's sexuality.
"I remember when it first came out, and everyone was like, 'Oh my God — you play a lesbian character!'" Mitchell told Strombo. "And now I don't really get asked 'how do you feel about kissing a girl?' anymore. That's not really in the conversation anymore because there are so many shows."
The actress added: "Just seeing how much this character has helped fans even just start a conversation with their family and friends, I'm like this is awesome. It's one thing to entertain but to have a small impact on their life is huge."
Mitchell has been an advocate for staying true to oneself no matter what.
Speaking about confidence, the actress told StyleCaster: "Celebrate being you. At the end of the day, there's only one of you and that in itself is a celebration. Instead of wanting to be like somebody else or change something about you, just embrace it and love it because you are adding so much into this world by being just one version of you."
