A new character will be introduced in "Once Upon A Time" season 5, and she is none other than Cleo, who has been Emma Swan's mentor even before she got to Storybrooke.
According to TV Line, Cleo will be played by "Heroes Reborn" star Rya Kihlstedt. She will appear in episode 20 of the fifth season, which is entitled "Firebird" and was written by Jane Espenson.
Cleo is described as "a bail bondsperson and no-nonsense woman who has pulled herself out of a rough early life and trusts her instincts above all else."
Just like Emma, she also has "a tough exterior" that "hides a strong nurturing side that isn't often given a chance to come out."
The show's co-creator Edward Kitsis teased that the fifth season will let viewers explore Emma's rocky past, and Cleo will help do just that.
"We are going to get a period in time in Emma's life we've never explored before, which is before she became a bail bondsperson," he said. "And it's about time!"
Another new character in the series is the ruler of the Underworld, Hades.
He is portrayed by Greg Germann, who shared with Entertainment Weekly that his character "is such a fun, endlessly creative challenge."
"Anything goes," Germann added. "The creators bring him to life on the page with the same out-of-the-box unpredictability that they bring to the rest of the show. They strike the perfect balance between keeping things grounded and letting things fly - sometimes literally."
Kitsis added that even though Hades is an incredibly "dangerous fellow," they still had a lot of fun with him.
Meanwhile, several old characters who were presumed to be dead will be introduced in season 5, such as Cora (Barbara Hershey), Peter Pan (Robbie Kay), Sidney Glass (Giancarlo Esposito) and the Blind Witch (Emma Caulfield).
"Once Upon A Time" will return to ABC on March 6.
