Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence made a lot of fans upset when she announced last year that "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be her last stint as the mutant Mystique.
"It is my last one, actually," she said during an interview with MTV.
But now, it seems like the actress is harping a different tune. "I am dying to come back [as Mystique]," she told Empire. "I love these movies, I love being in them. I love ensemble movies because it's not on anyone's shoulders."
However, there is no guarantee that Lawrence will be able to reprise her role as Mystique next time around. Director Bryan Singer said that "Apocalypse" marks the end of a prequel trilogy, so that means a number of key actors' contracts have expired with it.
These actors include Michael Fassbender as Magneto, James McAvoy as Professor X and Nicholas Hoult as Beast.
At the same time, the "X-Men" universe is placing its focus more on the expansion of standalone films. There's Hugh Jackman's final film as Wolverine in 2017, followed by Channing Tatum's "Gambit" and Ryan Reynold's second "Deadpool" film.
When it comes to the fate of the well-loved mutants in "Apocalypse," Singer is very unforgiving since he teased that any character can die in the upcoming "X-Men" film.
"[Those present-day characters are] all fair game, because anything can happen," he shared during an interview with IGN. "When two things are happening simultaneously in quantum physics, it's what's called a superposition. When the observer finally observes the outcome, that's called the outcome of the superposition, which is what happened when Wolverine woke up and saw all the happiness (at the end of 'Days of Future Past'). So yes, that is the outcome, we hope."
Other stars of the film include Sophie Turner as Jean Grey, and Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee as Nightcrawler, and many others.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" will hit cinemas on May 27.
