Fans were finally introduced to "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta's" first transgender cast member, D. Smith, and her addition to the show has come with a little bit of drama already.
Although Smith, who just so happens to be a renowned music producer, joined the cast to get more exposure for her music and artist, she's already found herself smack in the middle of a huge beef between her friend Betty Idol and returning LHHATL cast member Tammy Rivera.
If you caught the latest episode of LHHATL, then you know that Betty was upset with Tammy because of some things Tammy's husband, rapper Waka Flocka Flame, said about the transgender community on the radio.
Although Tammy had already cleared up her husband's comments during a previous one-on-one meeting with Smith, their shot at friendship was still complicated by Betty's constant questioning over Waka's opinions.
However, Smith, who has been open about her transition from male to female on LHHATL, didn't seem to be nearly as upset with Waka's comments on transgender people.
So why was Betty so upset when her friend wasn't bothered?
According to Smith, it's because Waka simply doesn't have enough clout for her to be concerned by his opinions.
The reality newbie recently shared her feelings about the beef between Tammy and Betty, and she said she simply didn't think Waka is "a big enough artist" to get her upset with his comments.
"If it was someone like a Will Smith or André 3000 that's something that would bother me, because people take their words a little more seriously. To me Waka is just kind of... I don't think he really meant it to be honest with you. I don't know why he did it. He did it because of why other people do it, because their buddies are looking, or because they have to look more masculine or more dominant than trans or gay people and they're really not. So I'm not buying it," Smith recently explained during an interview with VH1. "The thing is, there's a child somewhere, trans or straight [and] that could have been the tipping point. Just hearing Waka talk so irresponsibly. That's the only reason why I was bothered by it. Not because he said it, like who listens to anyone named Waka?"
For more D. Smith, tune into "Love & Hip Hop Atlanta" every Monday at 8 p.m. on VH1.
