"Grey's Anatomy" season 12, episodes 18 and 19, put Ben (Jason George) in a critical condition in terms of his career.
Ben decided to operate on a pregnant woman without proper tools. There was a lockdown at Grey Sloan at the time because of a missing child. Since the woman needed immediate attention, Ben decided to the operation with tools he could find. The lockdown was already lifted when he started the operation, though, so it was taken by the hospital's authorities as negligence on his part. As a result, he was given a six-month suspension.
George opened up to People about the incident and how the board's decision will affect his character.
"Ben is put in a position where he has to make a hard call," the actor said about why the character chose to perform the surgery. "It's the worst possible scenario for any surgeon to find themselves in."
Speaking of the effects of the board's decision, George said; "A six-month suspension at this level of residency is basically saying, 'It's impossible for you to graduate.' Ben may as well quit now."

The actor continued: "The only reason he doesn't is that he refuses to lose and insists he will find a way to get through it. But it could sink his career as a surgical student. That is a hard pill to swallow."
George also said that the incident will take a toll on Ben's marriage with Bailey (Chandra Wilson), who happens to be the Chief of Surgery at Grey Sloan.
"Ben thinks, as his wife, Miranda should have had his back no matter what," George said. "But instead, she was going to ruin his career. They have to earn back trust from each other."
Apart from what will happen to Ben and Bailey's relationship, fans can expect other tension-filled events on the show's next episode. Below is the synopsis for the episode.
