Thomas Lennon, who plays Felix Unger in CBS' "The Odd Couple," has been cast in the in a film depicting the life of National Lampoon co-founder Douglas Kenney titled "A Futile And Stupid Gesture."
Starring alongside Lennon is Joel McHale as Chevy Chase, Will Forte as Kenney, Domhall Gleason as Kenny's business partner and co-founder Henry Beard.
Lennon will play Michael O'Donoghue.
The feature will begin filming in late April, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The director of the film is David Wain, the co-creator of "Wet Hot American Summer."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kenney was the editor of the Harvard Lampoon when he met Beard and Robert Hoffman.
After the three graduated, they created National Lampoon, a magazine that was a huge success in the 1970s.
Kenney later succumbed to drug and alcohol issues before falling off a cliff in Hawaii, his death reportedly via "mysterious circumstances."
As Michael O'Donoghue, Lennon will help bring to life one of the first writers at the magazine who later became one of its editors.
O'Donoghue was the first head writer on "Saturday Night Live" in 1975 and appeared in the first-ever skit on the show.
O'Donoghue passed away in 1994.
Lennon will return to the small screen alongside Matthew Perry in his hit CBS series, "The Odd Couple" for season two, which debuts April 7.
"I say our worst episode this year is better than the best episode last year," Perry told, "CBS This Morning."
Perry and Lennon remarked that the show is now hitting its stride, "gelling" together in a way that unites the writers and the cast to make for a more successful show.
The new season will also feature guest star Teri Hatcher as Perry's girlfriend.
In a twist, the show will also feature a nude scene between Perry and Lennon, who play roommates Oscar and Felix.
"This is the first, to my knowledge of all "The Odd Couple," this is the first Felix-Oscar nude scene," laughed Lennon to "CBS This Morning."
"I was very apprehensive about it and it was a very stressful thing," Lennon continued in the interview. "When you know you have a nude scene coming up for months in advance, it's a distressing thing, but it's a great motivator."
"But also, Thomas works out all the time," Perry added of his co-star's physique.
"The Odd Couple" season two begins Thursday, April 7 at 8:30 p.m. on CBS.
