Bringing Wonder Woman to the big screen feels "crazy" for producer Deborah Snyder, but she cannot help but be excited to explore the character's origins and help promote female empowerment.
"Maybe it's time. Because there's been a lot of talk about gender equality, and Wonder Woman historically through the comics has always represented women's place in the world, and she's changed and evolved as women have," Snyder told Forbes.
She added that she is "enormously proud" of the fact that Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman will have her own standalone film in 2017 which will be directed by Patty Jenkins.
Snyder added that Jenkins will be "the first female director of a big studio tentpole action film like this."
"And that's about time, too. Because it's not only important for us to have these strong female characters that young girls and boys can look up to, but it's also important to me to get as many women behind the camera," she said.
Gadot could not help but agree, since she's also a huge fan of Jenkins' work.
"She's a genius," she told Variety of Jenkins. "I think it was a smart move [to get her as director]. I think women understand women the best. And Patty has such a great vision; she knew exactly how she wanted to tell our story. She's all about the heart, and I think that Wonder Woman is all about the heart as well."
Getting the right person to helm "Wonder Woman" is so important for Gadot because of the respect and admiration she holds for the superhero.
"Everything she stands for is something I can relate to," the actress said. "She's very compassionate; she's all about love and peace. She's so strong and independent but sophisticated and with such emotional intelligence. She's the perfect woman."
"Wonder Woman" will make its way to cinemas on June 23, 2017.
