"Captain America: Civil War" directors Joe and Anthony Russo did not even plan on letting Chadwick Boseman don his suit as the Black Panther in Marvel's recent release, but they changed their mind in the end because they wanted to establish a proper introduction to his character.

"We thought, wouldn't it be fun if we took a free radical, who enters the story, that has a strong investment in the plot, the strongest investment in the plot in many ways, and not have him give a damn about either side in the fight?" Anthony told the Wall Street Journal.

Because of the Black Panther's impressive fighting skills, he became one of the major players in "Civil War." The Russo brothers' introduction of the superhero really worked because fans are now even more excited to see his standalone film in 2018.

For those who are unfamiliar with the character, Black Panther goes by the alter ego T'Challa, the crown prince of Wakanda. Wakanda is a fictional African-American nation that boasts of impressive technological advancements. They are responsible for creating the metal vibranium, which is used to construct Captain America's shield.

Boseman revealed during an interview with the Toronto Sun that many people have been arguing whether or not the Black Panther is really a superhero because he has so many responsibilities to take on.

"He's probably the only superhero who's a king of a nation, so he plays politician as well," said Boseman. "What makes him special is he's strong, but he's not the strongest. It's more agility and more his wit and more his ingenuity."

Plus, there have been several other Black Panthers before T'Challa. "If you know the comic, he has to live up to a lineage of other Black Panthers that came before him," said Boseman. "It's that same thing as if you're dad was a rock star, then how do you live up to being a rock star? How do you live up to being a king? How do you live up to a superhero? That's definitely part of it; that he has to prove himself."

"Black Panther," which will be directed by Ryan Coogler, is slated for a July 6, 2018 release.
