When it comes to bodyguards, Nathan Darrow's Edward Meechum in "House of Cards" is one of the best. Not only is he good at what he does, but he is also loyal to a fault. Meechum is Frank Underwood's (Kevin Spacey) man through and through that he willingly gave up his life for the politician.
A lot of fans were surprised by Meechum's death during the show's fourth season, but Darrow wasn't.
"It was in line with how I thought of Meechum," the 39-year-old actor told ET Online. "When [show creator] Beau [Willimon] told me that was where it was going, I honestly have to tell you that it was a scenario that had occurred to me."
During the show's fourth season, Meechum surprisingly took a bullet that was intended for Underwood.
Meechum's relationship with his boss has often been teased by fans, since the two share a flirty and carnal attraction toward one another. Last season, they even shared a kiss.
Darrow said that the intimate scenes between them might make other actors uncomfortable, but not for him and Spacey.
"Your own comfort level increases or ebbs and flows as people change," he explains, adding it's "cool to do almost anything with Kevin on camera."
"I enjoyed it all so much. Hell, I enjoyed flirting with him, I enjoyed when he gave me dirty looks, or gave me the business, or almost fired me," Darrow added.
The series has gotten new showrunners for its fifth season -- senior writers Frank Pugliese and Melissa James Gibson. The two will be replacing Willimon.
Pugliese and Gibson first started working on "House of Cards" in its third season. Pugliese wrote episodes three and 10, while Gibson wrote episodes six and 11, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"House of Cards" season 4 is available every Friday on Netflix.
