As much as "X-Men: Apocalypse" star Alexandra Shipp loved Halle Berry's portrayal of the mutant Storm, she still put her own spin on the character for Bryan Singer's upcoming movie.

Shipp told Collider that she read a lot of comic books after nabbing the role just so she can understand Storm's backstory. One of the surprising things she learned is that the mutant has a history with the Black Panther, otherwise known as T'Challa.

"I read a lot of the newer comics because there are a lot of newer comics that are doing a lot of her back story, especially her stuff with T'Challa, and I wanted to know who she was," the actress said.

"In my mind because of the way that the script is, in comparison to her comic story line, it's a little but different. So in my mind, like she and T'Challa were king and queen of Africa when they were like 13, and that's the only way that I could make it work. They were young king and queens, it happens sometimes, whatever," she added.

Shipp would actually love to bring their characters together and announce, "We're married!" But the Black Panther, to be portrayed by Chadwick Boseman, will not be a part of the "X-Men" franchise and instead get his own standalone movie in 2018.

"Our suits were made by the same people," Shipp even shared. "I saw the Black Panther outfit, by the way. It looks amazing!"

Another newbie in the "X-Men" films is Sophie Turner's Jean Grey. The character was initially portrayed by Famke Janssen. Just like Shipp, Turner did her best to put her own stamp on the mutant.

"The difference between this and Famke's Jean Grey is she's young and isolated and so insecure and very alienated - even from the other mutants - because she's so powerful. So there's a real vulnerability to her and it's great to see how her and Scott (Tye Sheridan) find each other through that alienation," Turner told Entertainment Weekly. "She's a great role to play, she's so much fun, and her arc in the movie is amazing."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will make its way to cinemas on May 27.
