"Suits" stars Meghan Markle and Gabriel Macht, who play Rachel Zane and Harvey Specter in the show, have teased before that the season 5 finale was supposed to end in a different way.
But at the last minute, show creator Aaron Korsh changed his mind and made certain tweaks. Now, Patrick J. Adams (Mike Ross) is sharing what the big change was all about.
"I hope I can talk about this... in the original script for the final episode, we were married. I showed up to church, we got married and then I got in the car and went off to prison," Adams told The New York Post.
"A day or two before we were going to shoot that scene, we all got to talking on set - what if we changed it? Aaron disappeared for a couple of hours and talked to us all separately... and, lo and behold, the next day we had this revised script with a new ending," he continued.
Adams is glad that Korsh changed the direction of the finale, because it was ultimately better for all of the characters involved.
"It was more interesting this way. If Mike is really finally deciding to make things right in his life, the final thing... is to ensure the woman he loves is not tying her fate to somebody whose fate is completely unknown at this point. To me, that was a bigger gesture of love and compassion on Mike's part: 'Don't ruin your life for me right now,'" he said.
Even though Adams agrees that it's about time Mike goes to prison because of his fraud case, he thinks that Mike's time would be wasted in prison.
"I think it would probably be better to put his particular skill set to some serious community service of some sort," the actor told TV Line.
The season finale for "Suits" season 5 was aired on March 2.
