HBO's "Vinyl" is set in the decadent 1970s, where music was transitioning from rock and roll to punk, disco and rap, and the series soundtrack is reflective of the changes in the business and boasts a who's who of music legends.
Atlantic Records and Warner Brothers Records have teamed up to release the official soundtrack of the series Vinyl, to debut on April 15, two days before the season finale.
Besides being issued on CD, volume one and two of the music are also expected to be released on vinyl.
"Vinyl" director Martin Scorsese is known for his love of music and uses it to his full advantage in his work on both the big and small screen.
Scorsese always manages to find the perfect sound to mirror what is occurring on film.
According to New York Music Scene, music love Scorsese has directed the anthologies, "The Last Waltz," "Shine A Light," "No Direction Home: Bob Dylan" and "George Harrison: Living in the Material World."
The director is a huge fan of the Rolling Stones and working with lead singer Mick Jagger is likely a dream come true.
Scorsese introduces viewers to music through his work on "Vinyl" that some of a younger generation might not be aware of.
The first volume of music includes takes from The Meters, Otis Redding, Edgar Winter, and even the fictional band from the series, The Nasty Bits, according to New York Music Scene.
In an ironic twist, the fictional band The Nasty Bits is fronted by Jagger's real-life son, James Jagger, son of the rocker and former wife, model Jerry Hall.
"Mick is a great artist, period, but he's also a great creative partner," Scorsese said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times regarding his partnership with the legendary Rolling Stones frontman.
"It's not just a matter of knowing this or that story but of getting the feel of it: what it felt like to be a promotional assistant at a record company or a platinum-selling band at the mercy of the executives, and what it felt like to be in those offices, in those recording booths, in those clubs. The texture of it all, the life ... that's what Mick brought to it," said Scorsese of the collaboration.
Series regulars include Olivia Wilde, Ray Romano, Ato Essandoh, Max Casella, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, Birgitte Hjort Sørensen, Juno Temple, Jack Quaid, James Jagger and Paul Ben-Victor.
"Vinyl" airs on Sunday nights on HBO and HBO streaming services.
